Advanced Traction Control by

Traction Control:
|
|
|
BahnTech’s Traction Control System is
by far the most comprehensive traction control system available.
BahnTechs Traction Control System increases vehicle performance by
increasing the CF (Coefficient of Friction) to its maximum value for the
current road and tire conditions. By increasing your vehicles CF you
are directly increasing vehicle performance, this increase will be visible
in your 0-60 times, 1/4 Mile times, lap times, etc.

|
Traction Control is known to reduce excessive wheel spin
during standing [drag type] starts. This is true, although BahnTechs
Traction Control is an entire Stability Management System. This system
has four main sub-systems that all work together to provide the ultimate
Stability Management System: |
|
|
|
1. Traction Control: Traction is
maintained at the preset limit dialed in on the Control Panel.
This traction can vary depending on road conditions, tires, and driving
preferences. The system can be adjusted to provide between 0-50%
slip. On dry pavement the optimal slip for a standing launch is
10%. This is easily dialed in on-the-fly with the cockpit mounted
Control panel.
|
|
|
|
2. Launch Control: Launch Control is used
when you want to accelerate from a standing stop as fast as possible.
Once activated, the Launch Control System limits the RPM to your preset
"optimal" Launch RPM. Then you can fully depress the
throttle and the engine speed will be electronically limited by the Launch
Control System until the vehicle reaches 10mph, at this point the launch
Control System turns control over to the Traction Control System. |
|
|
|
3. Stability Management: This system limits wheel slip by reducing engine power as traction is
lost. This differs from Traction Control because it happens at higher
speeds and generally while cornering. The system senses the cornering
speed and loss of traction, then intervenes to help regain control of
the vehicle. This system is not a replacement for driving skill and
safe driving practices, but it does provide some assistance under turn
induced slip conditions.
On motorcycles the Stability Management System also
inhibits front tire lift due to hard acceleration. This
system will not prevent front tire lift, but after the front tire lifts the
system will actively reduce engine power until the front tire is once again
on the ground, then full power is restored. This system increases
motorcycle performance and safety.
|
|
|
4. Data Logging: The Traction Control
System includes a RS232 serial based Data Logging System. With the use
of a notebook PC you can log the following data:
- Wheel Speed [All 4 Wheels]
- RPM
- Throttle Position
- Percentage of engine power being limited by the
system
- Any other Automotive Sensor [0-15v]

|
| Will your Traction Control System work on my
car? |
| Most likely. Our system works on most
vehicles with 2 and 4 wheels and 2-8Cylenders. |
|
| How complicated is the installation of
your Traction Control System? |
| The installation should be performed by a
qualified service shop. The installation should take about one
full day. |
|
| Do I have to own a Notebook PC to use
your Traction Control System? |
| No. A notebook PC should be used for
installation and calibration, but after that it would only be needed
to collect and log data. The traction control system functions
without the notebook pc. |
|
|
| Will it work with my
Notebook PC? |
| Probably. You will need a
fast PC because the Traction Control software collects and checks for data
integrity in real time. Your PC will need a 9pin Serial port or
a Serial to USB Converter.
If you have a slower PC you might increase your accuracy by using a
USB Converter even though you have a 9pin Serial port. The USB
serial data requires much less overhead on the CPU, thus allowing you
to use a slightly older PC and still have a reliable system.

| ** The Traction Control system requires the
Traction Control Hardware and a Notebook PC to collect the data.
Without the PC in the vehicle you can not collect data.
This was a design consideration to keep the total system cost
low. |
|
|
| How does the Traction Control System work? |
| The BahnTech Traction Control System uses
inputs from the 4x ABS wheel speed sensors to determine the current
level of traction, then the system cuts engine power in an increasing
manor until traction reaches the preset level.
The Launch Control System is activated by a button on the Control
panel mounted in the cabin of the vehicle. Once activated the
system limits the RPM to a preset optimal launch value. This RPM
limit is held as the vehicle clutch is released and the vehicle starts
to accelerate. At 10mph the launch Control System disengages and
turns control over to the Traction Control System.
|
|
| Does the Stability Management System use an
Accelerometer? If not why? |
| No. The system calculates lateral Gs and turn
angle by using the wheel speed inputs. During a turn your left
and right wheels are traveling at different speeds. This delta
speed is used to calculate turn angle and lateral G Force.
|
|
|
| How is the unit calibrated
for my Speedometer and RPMs? |
| Calibration is performed by the
installation shop via the PC interface. This provides maximum flexibility
for the end user. |
|
| What is included in the box? |
|
The Traction Control Kit comes complete
will everything you need to install the product immediately on
vehicles with ABS wheel speed sensors and Fuel Injection.
